1. Multiracial students made up 2.2% of Howell High School enrollment in 2024-25 (livingstontoday.com) — Multiracial students made up 2.2% of Howell High School's 1,964-student enrollment in 2024-25, with 44 students, the highest multiracial count in Howell Public Schools. While the school remains about 90% white, multiracial enrollment has steadily grown over the past decade, even as overall Michigan student numbers have declined since before the pandemic.
   

2. Almost 6,000 DTE customers remain without power 4 days after severe storms hit Metro Detroit (fox2detroit.com) — Power is still out for some Howell households after last week's severe storms, with DTE reporting about 1,100 customers without electricity in the Brighton-Howell-Pinckney area and 5,700 statewide. Crews from across the region are working to restore service after tornadoes and high winds caused widespread damage. Residents can monitor restoration progress using DTE's online outage map.
   

3. Pinckney bus driver honored for quick thinking during dangerous storm (bnd.com) — Livingston County schools, including Howell Public Schools, were hit hard by Sept. 3 storms that closed buildings, cut power and caused major dismissal delays. While Howell closed entirely, Fowlerville and Pinckney stayed open and relied on staff, police and quick-thinking bus drivers to keep students safe. One Pinckney driver even led trapped students to safety after trees blocked her bus.
   

4. Second Referendum Scheduled for Christmas Tree Program (morningagclips.com) — Howell is the dateline for a new USDA referendum that will again ask Christmas tree producers and importers nationwide whether to continue their industry's research and promotion program. A previous vote narrowly failed after a shortened window and late ballots raised concerns. Eligible growers can cast mail or electronic ballots between Oct. 1 and Oct. 16, 2026.
