1. ART Doing Good puts out call to artists for new mural in downtown Howell (thelivingstonpost.com) — A Howell-based nonprofit is commissioning a new mural for a prominent exterior wall on South Michigan Avenue in downtown Howell and is seeking proposals from Michigan artists. Local and Livingston County artists are especially encouraged to apply by November 2, with installation planned for May 2027 and community input helping shape the mural's theme.
   

2. 394 white students enrolled at Northwest Elementary in 2024-25 (livingstontoday.com) — Northwest Elementary, part of Howell Public Schools, enrolled 418 students in 2024-25, including 394 white students, continuing a long-running demographic pattern in the district. With Howell's central office overseeing 10 schools, the report also notes statewide funding increases, while Howell High School has the district's largest number of white students.
   

3. Howell Opera House Enters "New Chapter" of Restoring Second-Floor Theater (whmi.com) — Plans to fully restore the historic second-floor theater at the Howell Opera House are moving into what leaders call a "new chapter," with multi-million-dollar work, fundraising and new revenue streams being developed. Executive Director Steven Bearden says the goal is a financially sustainable venue that boosts downtown Howell's economy through events like weddings, showers, parties and corporate rentals.
   

4. HAFA: "Aggressive" Family Removed from Scene of Vehicle Fire (whmi.com) — Livingston County deputies and the Howell Area Fire Department responded to a pickup fire in Oceola Township after a family member refused to move back from the burning vehicle. Fire officials, who serve the Howell community, emphasized that state law requires people to obey firefighters' safety orders at emergency scenes, and noted everyone escaped the blaze without injuries.
   

5. Cleary University Hires Firm for Education Lobbying (legis1.com) — Cleary University, based in Howell/Ann Arbor, has hired Hogan Marren Babbo & Rose to lobby on broad federal education issues, returning to active lobbying after earlier efforts in 2008–2011. The move comes as universities nationwide face funding cuts and shifting federal priorities, which could indirectly affect Cleary's programs and resources available to local students.
