1. Lansing Community College students kick off the semester with 'Party with the Prez' (wilx.com) — Lansing Community College students kicked off the new semester with the annual "Party with the Prez" Welcome Week celebration on campus, featuring free food, games, and music. LCC's president emphasized helping Lansing-area students feel supported and aware of campus resources, including options for adults considering returning to school.
   

2. Lake Lansing Park South, former Habitat for Humanity building in Williamston devastated by Thursday storms (wilx.com) — Strong storms tore through the Lansing area Thursday, heavily damaging Lake Lansing Park South and a former Habitat for Humanity ReStore building near Williamston. Trees and power lines were downed, the park pavilion was destroyed, and thousands across Mid-Michigan lost power as cleanup crews and residents began assessing and clearing the damage.
   

3. American Rheinmetall Secures Award from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for MCT-30 Turret Machined Components Supporting USMC ACV-30 Program (soldiersystems.net) — American Rheinmetall's Lansing facility will help build machined components for MCT-30 turrets used on the Marine Corps' ACV-30 vehicles under a new $710,000 subcontract. Work in Lansing and Lapeer will run through 2026 and 2027, supporting local manufacturing jobs and expanding the company's defense industry footprint in Michigan.
   

4. Michigan critical race theory ban proposal meets opposition from NAACP leader (wilx.com) — A new bill in Lansing from Sen. Jim Runestad would ban teaching critical race theory, the 1619 Project, and what it calls "anti-American academic theories" in Michigan public schools, with funding penalties for violations. The NAACP Lansing Branch president and Sen. Sarah Anthony of Lansing argue the proposal would whitewash history and distract from core education issues, while supporters say CRT is divisive indoctrination.
