• Marquette County Commission passes resolution in ā€˜Support of the People' (miningjournal.net) — Marquette County commissioners narrowly approved a ā€œSupport of the Peopleā€ resolution praising local law enforcement standards and urging any outside agencies operating in the county to meet those same practices. The 3-2 vote followed a tense debate over whether the measure could invite political controversy or federal funding issues, with supporters insisting it’s a nonpartisan affirmation of Marquette-area policing professionalism.

• Demolition proceeds apace in downtown Marquette (miningjournal.net) — A long-vacant corner at 401 W. Washington Street in downtown Marquette is being demolished to make way for a $4.3 million, 16,000-square-foot mixed-use building. The project will add integrated parking, two new commercial spaces and 11 workforce-oriented apartments, backed by state economic development and brownfield financing and coordinated with several Marquette partners.

• L.S.C.P. celebrates a successful year. (wzmq19.com) — Marquette County business and community leaders gathered Thursday for the Lake Superior Community Partnership’s annual dinner, celebrating major progress on housing, child care, and air service while raising funds for future economic development. The event honored longtime housing advocate Anne Giroux, named Distinguished Service Award winner, and Lake Superior Press as Business of the Year, while also marking a leadership transition from outgoing director Christopher Germain to incoming director Natalie Chmiko.
