Free heritage festival weekend returns to Monroe June 12–14 (monroenews.com) — A free Heritage Festival Weekend kicks off today at River Raisin National Battlefield Park’s visitor center in Monroe, offering living history encampments, concerts, and hands-on activities through Sunday. Families can explore Frenchtown’s French-Canadian roots, watch artillery demonstrations, enjoy performances, and opt into low-cost experience passes for extra crafts and archery, all as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration.

Erie Race for the Kids event offers 5K, family fun and support (monroenews.com) — Families in Monroe County are invited to a Race for the Kids 5K and family fun day this Saturday in nearby Erie, raising money for local children with severe or life-threatening illnesses. Along with the run and walk, you’ll find raffles, auctions, kids’ activities, live music, and an entertainment tent, with every registration and donation going to support affected Monroe and Lucas County families.

New Boston Huron girls soccer can't recover from slow start in semifinals (lansingstatejournal.com) — After New Boston Huron’s girls soccer team fell in the state semifinals, Monroe-area athletes still earned plenty of recognition, with Monroe and Bedford players named to All-Conference and All-Sportsmanship teams. Local highlights also include Gibraltar Carlson standouts, a hole-in-one at Giant Oak Golf Course, and a high-scoring match in Monroe’s Adult Coed Indoor Soccer League.

5. Sailboats capsize in Detroit River near Belle Isle during severe weather (clickondetroit.com) — Severe storms that capsized several sailboats near Belle Isle came as Monroe County and much of Southeast Michigan were under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch. While no serious injuries were reported, the National Weather Service warned that conditions were ripe for damaging winds, large hail, and frequent lightning across communities including Monroe.
