The outer breakwater will be closed during phase two work, and any extra donations will support a long-term maintenance fund at the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.

Gunman convicted in 1998 Muskegon gang killing has life sentence reduced (mlive.com) — A Muskegon man convicted of killing 18-year-old Sonta Steward in a 1998 gang-related shooting has had his life-without-parole sentence reduced to 32 to 60 years under a recent Michigan Supreme Court ruling on young offenders. Resentenced in Muskegon County Circuit Court, he apologized to the victim’s family as prosecutors and defense worked out his credit for time served.

3. ‘Heartless criminal' gets decades in prison for Muskegon Heights murder (mlive.com) — A 29-year-old man has been sentenced in Muskegon County Circuit Court to up to 95 years in prison for the 2024 shooting death of Desmond Bridgeford in Muskegon Heights. Family members delivered emotional statements urging the maximum penalty, while the defendant expressed regret as the judge ordered consecutive terms for murder and a felony firearm conviction.

The dramatic upgrades at Michigan state parks are nearly complete — here's where $273M went (mlive.com) — Major state funding is transforming Michigan’s parks, including more than $1 million in upgrades to the Gillette Visitor Center at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon County. The project improves safety, accessibility, and building systems with new siding, railings, elevator repairs, and more. Overall, $273 million in ARPA money is modernizing campgrounds, visitor centers, and infrastructure across the state by the end of 2026.
