• Negaunee City Council addresses several issues (wzmq19.com) — Negaunee’s city council is moving ahead with major local projects, including a $400,000 grant application to expand the Ice Arena with new women’s and referees’ locker rooms. Council members also began drafting zoning rules for any future data centers and unveiled a new website sharing plans and progress for restoring the historic Vista Theater, with construction on both the theater and arena expected to ramp up this summer.

• Creative Negaunee Teens Recognized at Carnegie Hall (nmu.edu) — Two Negaunee High School students just earned top national honors at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, celebrated this week at Carnegie Hall. Painter Miles Spaulding and poet Reese Collins both brought home Gold Medals, with their Negaunee teachers traveling alongside them. Their wins highlight opportunities for creative teens across the U.P. through Northern Michigan University’s regional program.

• Two Michigan Golfers Gear Up For Epson Tour At Sweetgrass (radioresultsnetwork.com) — Negaunee High School alum Rachel Niskanen is heading back to the Epson Tour stop at Sweetgrass Golf Course later this month, competing on a sponsor’s exemption alongside fellow Michigan standout Taylor Kehoe. Niskanen, now a Central Michigan University golfer, says last year’s roaring local support made it the best golf experience of her life, and she’s eager to test herself again in the 54-hole event running June 26–28 with affordable tickets for spectators.
