State crews are clearing debris and monitoring the dam closely as historic regional flooding strains more than 20 dams across northern Michigan, with officials warning conditions could worsen with more rain and snowmelt.

Flood warning for northern Lower Michigan through Saturday night (detroitnews.com) — Oscoda County is under a National Weather Service flood warning through Saturday night, with high water threatening roads, bridges, and low-lying areas across northern Lower Michigan. Residents are urged to watch for washed-out roads, prepare for more heavy rain Friday, and report flooding to local emergency services when it’s safe to do so.

The Sunset Project celebrates five years (thealpenanews.com) — A regional mental health nonprofit, The Sunset Project, is marking five years of work supporting creative projects and awareness programs that include residents of Oscoda and surrounding counties. Through grants, placemaking efforts, and school-based wellness initiatives, the group aims to reduce stigma and expand mental health understanding across Northeast Michigan, and it’s inviting supporters to a May 3 Brighter Horizons fundraiser.

Dense fog advisory active for Northern Michigan until Friday morning – visibility limited to 1/4 mile (mlive.com) — A dense fog advisory is in effect this morning for Oscoda County and several neighboring counties, with visibility dropping to a quarter-mile or less. The National Weather Service urges drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, keep extra distance, and pull over safely if visibility becomes near zero.
