Popular Royal Oak Restaurant Permanently Closes

ROYAL OAK, MI — A Royal Oak favorite, Edo Ramen, has permanently closed.

Officials with the restaurant blamed the closing on several factors, including leasing issues with the landlord and expensive building repairs.

"Sometimes things don't go the way we had hoped," reads a Facebook post that explains that the closing. "With no help from the landlord and a new lease looming — and no idea of the new lease amount. We felt trapped in a very unhealthy situation and toxic relationship with our landlord."

Restaurant officials also cited a poor economy, saying "the restaurant business has been tougher in the last year," adding "the economy is just not what it used to be."

Edo Ramen, located along 13 Mile Road, was best known for its Asian cuisine. It also served rare Filipino dishes, such as pancit and lumpia. It was also known for hosting art shows and live music.

The closing comes just shy of Edo Ramen's 1oth anniversity. The Metro Times had also just named it "Best Noodle Restaurant" in the area.

"We truly wanted to have a celebration with you all but we cannot with what’s going on," restaurant officials said in the post. "The building is slowly breaking down and needs an overhaul. We can’t justify putting massive amounts into someone else’s building who is difficult and just plain greedy."
