• EUP, Ontario groups partner to compete in 2026 City Nature Challenge (sooeveningnews.com) — Sault Ste. Marie residents are being invited to help document local wildlife during the City Nature Challenge BioBlitz, running April 24–27 with a guided iNaturalist outing April 25 in Minneapolis Woods. Partnering with Ontario conservation groups, the city will compete globally by logging plants, animals, and sounds, and anyone can join from home using the iNaturalist app.
   

• Sault woman charged with arson in Second Line West building blaze (sootoday.com) — A Sault Ste. Marie woman has been charged with arson after a January fire on Second Line West that destroyed a multi-unit building and displaced all its tenants. Police say their investigation found the blaze began inside the accused’s unit; she now faces arson and related charges and remains in custody pending a bail hearing, while all allegations have yet to be tested in court.
