Southfield Police Department gives recognition to officers (candgnews.com) — Southfield residents can see how their local police officers were recently honored for bravery and dedication at the department's seventh annual awards ceremony on Sept. 2. Sixty-two officers, a citizen, and two retired officers, including a former Southfield cop now serving Temple Israel, were recognized as Chief Elvin Barren praised their sacrifice and community support.
   

2. Oakland County prosecutor reviewing evidence in Southfield TGI Fridays shooting (clickondetroit.com) — Authorities are still deciding whether to file charges after a Sept. 4 shooting outside the Southfield TGI Fridays that killed one woman and injured two others. The Oakland County prosecutor is reviewing evidence and toxicology reports while working closely with Southfield police to determine what happened and whether anyone will be charged.
   

3. Lathrup Village Music Festival to bring full day of music, entertainment (candgnews.com) — Residents near Southfield can enjoy a free, all-day music festival in Lathrup Village Municipal Park on Sept. 12, featuring nine acts, food trucks, a bar, and 53 local vendors. The grassroots event, born from a post-lockdown community challenge, has become the city's largest annual gathering, with a rain date and slightly shorter schedule set for Sept. 13.
   

4. The Engine Company Building 1,100-HP Hybrid Powertrains Is Setting Up Shop In America (carbuzz.com) — A global engine and hybrid powertrain company, Horse Powertrain, has opened a 32-person North American office in Southfield, aiming to build ties with Detroit-area automakers and suppliers. While it's not a manufacturing site yet, the move could eventually bring more automotive business and specialized jobs to Southfield as the firm seeks U.S. partners.
   

5. Southfield freeway shooting suspect in August incident, arrested (fox2detroit.com) — Drivers who use the Southfield Freeway will want to know that Michigan State Police have arrested a suspect in the August 25 road rage shooting near Joy Road. Investigators say the driver allegedly fired a pistol at another vehicle, causing minor injuries from glass and bullet fragments, and later confessed after a search warrant turned up the suspected gun and car.
