Council approves repairs at Aquatic Center ahead of June opening (albertleatribune.com) — Albert Lea’s City Council has approved needed repairs at the Aquatic Center so the popular pools can safely open on June 5. City staff discovered deteriorating paint on the kiddie and main pools and deck, and are weighing repair options expected to last several years while keeping costs manageable for the city. 
2. Freeborn County to remove nearly all ash trees in fairgrounds due to infestation (kttc.com) — Nearly all ash trees at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds in Albert Lea will be removed starting Saturday, April 18, after inspectors found severe Emerald Ash Borer infestation in 40 of 41 trees. County officials and the Freeborn County Agricultural Society say phased removals, led first by volunteers, are needed for safety and to stop the beetle’s spread, with plans to replant new trees, possibly this fall.
3. Albert Lea woman faces felony theft charge for alleged skip scanning s... (albertleatribune.com) — Albert Lea police and Freeborn County prosecutors have charged a 24-year-old local woman with felony theft after Walmart staff reported repeated “skip scanning” incidents totaling more than $1,400 in merchandise. Officers responded to the Albert Lea store in January, and court documents outline an ongoing investigation into alleged under-scanning of items over several months.
4. Convicted felon in Albert Lea charged with illegal firearm possession ... (albertleatribune.com) — Albert Lea police arrested a 29-year-old local man Wednesday evening after coordinating with Minneapolis authorities about a previously reported negligent gun discharge there. Officers stopped his vehicle near Skyline Plaza and later searched his Wedgewood Road residence with help from a regional SWAT team, acting on information that he was not allowed to possess firearms.
