1. 14th Street NW closing Friday in Austin, detours in place (kimt.com) — Expect major detours in northwest Austin as 14th Street Northwest closes between I-90 and 18th Avenue Northwest starting Friday for sewer and bridge-related work lasting through fall. Drivers are urged to follow alternate routes via 4th Street Northwest and nearby ramps and allow extra time, especially when accessing Riverland Community College and Highway 218.

Tragic Crash Claims Life Of Young Driver In Austin, Minnesota (1520theticket.com) — A 21-year-old driver was killed early Thursday when his car struck a railroad bridge pillar on Oakland Place SE in Austin, closing the street for several hours. Austin police, fire, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, and the State Patrol responded, and investigators report no signs of braking or evasive action before the crash.

Austin care coordinator charged with bilking Medicaid for $185K (kimt.com) — State officials have charged a former Mower County care coordinator based in Austin with seven felony counts, alleging she fraudulently billed Medicaid for more than $185,000 over several years. Investigators say she claimed services that never occurred, including for clients who had moved away or died, and the Attorney General’s office plans to prosecute the case.
   

5. Free summer meal options for children in Southeast Minnesota (kaaltv.com) — Families in Austin can get free breakfast and lunch for kids 18 and under this summer at Austin High School, Sumner Elementary, Ellis Middle School and CLC at Woodson. Austin Public Schools’ federally funded program has already served hundreds of meals and requires no income qualifications, though children must eat on site and times vary by location.
