• Applications are now open for Hatch Bloomington Loves Local (bloomingtonmn.gov) — Bloomington small business owners can now apply for a share of $100,000 in city funding through the 2026 Hatch Bloomington Loves Local program, with applications due July 6. Brick‑and‑mortar businesses with 50 or fewer full‑time employees may be selected to pitch on July 29, with up to five receiving grants to strengthen operations, expand, or support local jobs.
• Peace officers must disclose their use of chemical irritants within a building (mn.gov) — Starting August 1, Minnesota peace officers will have to notify building owners and residents whenever they use tear gas or other chemical irritants indoors, and share product details if requested. The Department of Public Safety will create a standard notice form, and Bloomington’s Sen. Melissa Wiklund co-sponsored the legislation aimed at improving safety and cleanup after such incidents.
• 2026 Bush Fellows Leadership Announced Bush Foundation 30 Leaders (spokesman-recorder.com) — One of this year’s Bush Fellows is Bloomington-based dentist and entrepreneur Elmi Abdulkadir Elmi, who will receive up to $150,000 for a self-designed leadership development plan. The 2026 Bush Fellows cohort features 30 leaders from Minnesota and neighboring states working on health, housing, education, civic engagement, and more.
