Hands-On Youth Watercraft Certification Class offered at Tioga Beach July 1 (grandrapidsmn.com) — Grand Rapids families with kids ages 12–17 can sign up now for a hands-on watercraft safety certification class at Tioga Beach on July 1. The course includes on-the-lake operation of boats and personal watercraft and fulfills Minnesota’s legal training requirements. Pre-registration through the Grand Rapids DNR office is required by June 26, with online coursework completed beforehand. 
2. Driver sustains life-threatening injuries in crash near Nashwauk (mesabitribune.com) — A Grand Rapids man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash near Nashwauk that left a Hibbing driver with life-threatening injuries Monday. State Patrol reports the Hibbing driver entered Highway 169 from Highway 65 and pulled into the path of the Grand Rapids man’s pickup. All three people involved were belted, airbags deployed, and alcohol is not suspected.

4. Thunderhawks fall to defending champions in extra innings (grandrapidsmn.com) — Grand Rapids’ Thunderhawks baseball team pushed defending Class 3A champion Mahtomedi to extra innings Thursday before falling 2-1 in a rain-delayed state quarterfinal at Chaska. Strong pitching from Joe Dick and key defensive plays kept Rapids close, but a walk-off in the eighth ended their title hopes. Local fans can still take pride in how tightly they battled the champs.
