1. Registration can reduce number of scrapped bikes, MPD says (marshallindependent.com) — Marshall police are asking residents to register their bicycles so fewer end up abandoned and ultimately scrapped or recycled after 90 days in storage. The Marshall City Council is considering declaring about 50 unclaimed bikes surplus so they can be donated when possible or sent to Alter Metal Recycling. You can register your bike at the Marshall Law Enforcement Center during regular business hours.

2. Hearing held in Marshall drug case (marshallindependent.com) — A Lyon County judge is weighing whether there’s enough probable cause to continue drug possession charges stemming from a January search of a Marshall apartment. Attorneys now have deadlines through July 1 to file written arguments, and the court is also considering easing the defendant’s requirement to travel back to Marshall for drug testing after his move to Pipestone County.

3. Coping with Life Alone programs offered (dglobe.com) — If you’re widowed, separated, or divorced in Marshall, a 10-week “Coping with Life Alone” support series starts July 13 at First Lutheran Church on Church and A streets. Sessions run Monday nights at 7 p.m., with registration at 6:30 p.m. on July 13 and 20, a small materials fee, and contacts available for questions or pre-registration.

4. Rachel Breczinski (marshallradio.net) — Marshall residents are mourning the passing of 95-year-old Rachel Breczinski, a longtime farm wife, community volunteer, and early Master Gardener who helped shape local 4-H, Holy Redeemer activities, and the Marshall-Lyon County Library. Services will be held June 18 in Cottonwood, with visitation just beforehand and arrangements by Horvath Funeral Service.

Girls golf: Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks make it look easy (wctrib.com) — Dawson-Boyd’s girls golf team just cruised to its third straight Class A state title, with several area golfers posting standout scores. Senior Alyssa Swedzinski, who helped secure the win, will continue her golf career at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, giving local fans another reason to follow her journey. The team’s dominant performance capped a low-pressure, high-reward final round.
