MN Health Officials Seek Woman Seen Picking Up Rabid Bat In Downtown Minneapolis (patch.com) — Health officials are urgently trying to locate a woman seen picking up a rabid bat from a downtown Minneapolis sidewalk on Hennepin Avenue, as well as anyone else who may have touched it. Minneapolis residents are urged to contact 911 and a health provider if they had any contact with the bat, since rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms begin but can be prevented with timely vaccination.

Here Are The Conditions ICE Agent Christian Castro Must Follow In MN (patch.com) — Minneapolis readers are learning new details about the release conditions for ICE agent Christian Castro, charged in a January shooting at a north Minneapolis home. A Hennepin County judge ordered strict bail terms including electronic monitoring, no weapons, and no contact with witnesses, while prosecutors continue pursuing both state assault charges and a related federal false-statements case.
   

3. Empty desks, tough choices: Minneapolis families face possible closure of 16 schools (fox9.com) — Minneapolis families could see up to 16 district schools close as leaders confront declining enrollment, 12,000 empty seats, and a nearly $40 million budget deficit. The school board won't vote until at least November, and residents are urged to share feedback online or at upcoming evening listening sessions at all seven community high schools, where interpreters and childcare will be provided.
   

4. Man Charged After Knife Chase on Minneapolis Sidewalk (mncrime.com) — A woman was chased and nearly stabbed on a Minneapolis sidewalk near Chicago Avenue and 16th Street, with the knife piercing her backpack as she fled into a store. Metro Transit Police arrested 58-year-old Minneapolis resident John Albert Henagan nearby after witnessing him make stabbing motions toward others and recovering a knife, and he now faces a felony second-degree assault charge.
   

5. Machine learning workshop for students – Radiations Newsletter (carleton.edu) — Students and early-career researchers in Minneapolis can apply now for a three-day, in-person machine learning school at the University of Minnesota from November 9–11, focused on Rubin time-domain science tools like Babamul, AppleCiDEr, and Hyrax.
