Teen In Critical Condition After Water Rescue At Minnehaha Falls
Minneapolis firefighters pulled a 16-year-old from the basin below the falls Saturday evening after he went under while swimming.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis Fire Department crews responded to a report of a missing swimmer at the water basin below Minnehaha Falls on July 4, according to a news release from the department.
Callers reported that a 16-year-old boy had gone underwater while swimming with family members at approximately 5:20 p.m. and had not resurfaced, the release said.
Firefighters put on swift-water rescue suits and established rope safety lines before entering the water at the location where the teen was last seen.

Crews located him submerged in the basin and brought him to shore, according to the department.
Fire personnel immediately began lifesaving measures, including CPR, and transported the teen via a small utility vehicle to a staged ambulance in the parking area, the release said.

HCMC paramedics, working with Minneapolis firefighters, provided continued emergency care and transported the teen to a local hospital in critical condition.
The Minneapolis Fire Department said it is extending its support to the family and that no further information was available as of Saturday night.
