• Public access restricted to Hermann monument (mankatofreepress.com) — Public access has been cut off around New Ulm’s Hermann the German monument after an engineer found serious deterioration in the base, dome, and surrounding materials. Visitors can still view the statue from Hermann Heights while the city seeks mostly state and federal funding for a full deconstruction and reconstruction, aiming to avoid burdening local taxpayers.
