• Firefighters lauded for river rescue (mankatofreepress.com) — Emergency crews from North Mankato and Mankato worked together in December to rescue a North Mankato woman who ended up stranded on thin ice in the Minnesota River near Veterans Memorial Bridge. This week, two Mankato firefighters were publicly honored with Life Saving Medals for braving dangerous ice and frigid water to pull her to safety and get her to the hospital.
