Northfield Native Named Aurora Queen of the Snows

A Northfield girl “made good” last week, as the girl many knew as Abby Brogger during her time here, now Abby Hoglin of Lakeville, was crowned as Aurora Queen of the Snows.

Aurora serves as the queen of St. Paul’s Winter Carnival, the “coolest festival on earth” and an event that has traditionally marked the ending of winter and the eventual ushering in of spring.

However, with it wrapping up on Feb. 1 this year, that remains to be seen.

Hoglin is a member and volunteer with the Defeat of Jesse James committee, which hosts Northfield’s largest summer festival.

Abby, now 27, was sponsored by Ideal Printers. She is married, and works at StayWell Health Management.

She told the Pioneer Press that she survived the Polar Vortex (which hindered some of last weekend’s activities) because she is “apparently immune to the cold,” adding that she even forgot her mittens one day.

Her princesses this year also include a couple of new, “lifelong” friends: the North Wind Princess is Elizabeth "Lyz" Carlson, 25, of Maplewood, sponsored by Kane's Catering; the East Wind Princess is Christine Schrader, 33, of Lakeville, sponsored by Power Systems Research; the West Wind Princess is Abby Massee, 23, of Savage, sponsored by Hamernick's Decorating; and the South Wind Princess is Ashley Galloway, 24, of Vadnais Heights, sponsored by Jimmy's Food and Drink.
