Serving area youth since 1996, Kinship of the Perham Area is creating more low-pressure ways for kids and mentors to connect, complementing resources like the Perham Area Community Center and strengthening face-to-face relationships in town.

2. Perham elementary proves summer school can be fun (perhamfocus.com) — Perham families get a closer look at how local elementary students are turning summer school into hands-on fun, from predatory bird presentations to ninja-style obstacle courses. At the same time, the school is moving ahead with a playground expansion, funded by community-driven efforts that began in 2023 to give kids more room to play at recess.

3. National music competition, Amplify, calls for submissions (wadenapj.com) — Perham is hosting the national Amplify music competition at the Perham Auditorium on Sept. 19, with $5,000 top prize and entries due by July 5. Local and national musicians can submit a live-performance YouTube link, then finalists will perform in Perham before judges and a packed house, showcasing the auditorium’s upgraded sound and lighting and bringing more music events to town.

Family remembers Otter Tail County mother killed in crash as case moves forward (perhamfocus.com) — An Otter Tail County family is mourning 40-year-old mother of five Nichole Shoultz of Dent after a crash that ended with her being taken to the hospital in Perham hours later. Investigators say she and her boyfriend had been drinking at a Perham bar beforehand, and he now faces manslaughter charges while his mother is charged with aiding an offender.

5. Teen hospitalized after semi and Jeep crash in Elizabeth (prismnews.com) — A 15-year-old driver was hospitalized after her Jeep and a semi collided at a rural Elizabeth intersection, prompting a multi-agency response that included Perham Ambulance. The crash, still under investigation, comes amid a rising statewide traffic death toll and highlights how quickly serious injuries can occur on Otter Tail County’s rural roads.
