The $14–$20 million project is stalled after a legal challenge from the City of Madison froze $1 million in seed money, leaving residents worried about continued population loss and limited services.

Hinds CC President Emeritus Dr. Clyde Muse dies (wjtv.com) — Canton readers may remember Dr. Clyde Muse from his first teaching and coaching job at Canton High School before he went on to lead Hinds Community College for 42 years. The 96-year-old president emeritus, known for championing educational access and community colleges statewide, died April 15, with services set for April 20 in Raymond.

Gluckstadt police announce 3 firearm, drug-related arrests in separate traffic stops (darkhorsepressnow.com) — Gluckstadt police made three recent traffic-stop arrests involving guns and alleged drug trafficking, including one man identified as being from Canton. Officers say the separate stops on I-55 and nearby roads turned up stolen weapons, suspected trafficking activity, and equipment violations, and they’re emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance toward such crime in the area.
   

4. Lady Vikes bring home Region 2-6A track championship (vicksburgpost.com) — Canton High’s boys track team captured first place at the Region 2-6A meet, edging several larger programs while Warren Central’s girls brought home the overall championship. Canton athletes helped top a strong field that included Ridgeland, Greenville, Callaway, and Neshoba Central, with several runners and relay teams advancing to the North State round.
