Water contact advisories LIFTED for Gulfport West Beach and Biloxi West Central Beach (ms.gov) — If you’ve been avoiding the water at Gulfport West Beach, state environmental officials say bacteria levels are now acceptable and the contact advisory there has been lifted. Biloxi West Central Beach has also reopened, though four other Coast advisories remain in place. Swimmers are still urged to stay out of the water during heavy rain and for 24 hours afterward.

2. ‘Scuba Steve' arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer, Picayune PD says (wlox.com) — Gulfport Police arrested clothing company founder Steve Johnson on a Picayune warrant accusing him of felony impersonation of a law enforcement officer. The charge stems from an encounter at a Picayune festival, which Johnson’s attorney calls a misunderstanding. Johnson has bonded out and plans to contest the allegation in court.

3. Singing River Health System, Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency honor Coast organ donors during Donate Life Month (wlox.com) — Gulfport residents joined Ocean Springs and Pascagoula on Thursday for Donate Life Month flag-raising ceremonies honoring Coast organ donors and their families. Organized by Singing River Health System and the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, the events spotlighted powerful local stories of loss and generosity while urging more people to register as organ donors.

4. CASA of South Mississippi swears in nine new advocates (wlox.com) — In Gulfport, nine new CASA of South Mississippi volunteers were sworn in, meaning more foster children on the Coast will now have a dedicated court-appointed advocate speaking up for them. Each new advocate completed 30 hours of training and could collectively serve 20 to 30 kids on the waiting list, with another swearing-in already planned for June.
