1. MS Coast beaches get surprisingly good results in bacteria testing before weekend (sunherald.com) — Gulfport Harbor Beach and all other Coast beaches just got the all-clear from state testers, meaning no active bacteria advisories as you head into the weekend. MDEQ says recent samples met federal health standards, though swimmers should still be cautious after heavy rains when runoff can spike bacteria levels along the shoreline.
   

2. Port of Gulfport dredging project recommended for congressional authorization (wxxv25.com) — A major dredging project at the Port of Gulfport has been recommended for congressional authorization, moving plans to deepen and widen the ship channel a step closer to reality. If funded, the $548 million upgrade would allow larger ships into Gulfport, strengthening the city’s role as an economic engine for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
   

3. Water Contact Advisories LIFTED for Long Beach and Gulfport Harbor Beaches (ms.gov) — Beach water contact advisories have been lifted for Gulfport Harbor Beach and Long Beach Beach after new tests showed bacteria levels are back within safe limits. Swimmers can return to the water, though officials still urge avoiding swimming during heavy rain and for 24 hours afterward, and recommend checking the state beach website for the latest conditions.
   

4. Gulfport Ward 2 runoff set for June 30: Bryan Caldwell, Ron Ruland advance (wxxv25.com) — Gulfport’s Ward 2 City Council race is headed to a June 30 runoff between Bryan Caldwell and Ron Ruland after no candidate cleared 50 percent. Both contenders emphasize public safety, infrastructure, and economic development, and are now fanning out across Ward 2 to win over voters before the decisive election.
   

5. ODU Men's Basketball Signs Transfer Forward Kylan Howze (odusports.com) — A 6-foot-10 Gulfport High alum, forward Kylan Howze is taking his game from Louisiana Tech to Old Dominion, where coaches praise his shot-blocking and rebounding. Local fans can follow a hometown player who starred at Gulfport High and Jones College as he steps into a bigger Division I role next season.
