• MGCCC, J. Allen Automotive team up for new diesel technician apprenticeship program (wxxv25.com) — Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and J. Allen Automotive have launched a diesel technician apprenticeship program based at MGCCC’s West Harrison County Center in Long Beach, giving students paid training with benefits. Local apprentices can earn while they learn, gain hands-on instruction tailored to employer needs, and move quickly into full-time technician jobs with J. Allen Automotive.

• Water Contact Advisories LIFTED for Long Beach and Gulfport Harbor Beaches (ms.gov) — Beach water contact advisories have been lifted for Long Beach Beach, from Oak Gardens to Girard, as well as Gulfport Harbor Beach after bacteria levels returned to acceptable levels. Swimmers are still urged to avoid the water during and 24 hours after heavy rain, and MDEQ will shift from text alerts to signage and its website for routine advisories after Labor Day.

• City working on drainage improvement projects (longbeachbreeze.com) — Long Beach is pushing ahead with several drainage improvement projects to better protect neighborhoods from heavy rain and flooding. Work is underway on the Briarwood/Parkwood, Park Row, and Rosalie projects, and the Board of Aldermen has approved contracts to upgrade three city pump stations, which Mayor Tim Pierce says will boost the city’s long-term resilience.
