• Independence police detain armed man at Blue Springs elementary school (kansascity.com) — Police detained an armed man in the office at Sunny Pointe Elementary, part of the Blue Springs School District, Thursday morning, and no one was hurt. Independence officers responded quickly, rerouted some students to Paul Kinder Middle School, and authorities say there’s no evidence he intended to threaten anyone on campus. 
• Imogene Harter (republictimes.net) — A longtime Waterloo and Columbia resident, Imogene Harter is remembered by a large family that includes a granddaughter living in Blue Springs. The 94-year-old church volunteer and traveler died April 8, with services held earlier this week in Dupo and burial in Millstadt, Illinois.
