• Volunteer firefighter shortage strains southeast Missouri departments (kfvs12.com) — Scott City residents saw firsthand how thin local fire resources are when Monday’s downpour flooded streets and only five or six of the department’s 18 volunteers could respond to about 30 calls. Fire leaders in Scott City and Portageville warn that shrinking volunteer ranks are straining emergency response and urge more community members to consider stepping up.
