LVCVA approves deal to boost Australian tourism to Las Vegas (fox5vegas.com) — Las Vegas tourism officials have approved a $1.45 million deal to market the city in Australia, aiming to revive international visitor numbers. The agreement backs Qantas' new nonstop Sydney–Las Vegas flight launching December 29 and promotes upcoming sports ties, potentially bringing more Australian visitors and millions in economic impact to local hotels, attractions, and jobs.
   

2. DMV announces closure of Henderson, North Las Vegas offices as Silverado facility nears opening (fox5vegas.com) — Southern Nevada drivers should prepare for DMV changes as the North Las Vegas Commercial Driver License office on Donovan Way closes October 9 and the Henderson office on American Pacific Drive closes October 14, consolidating into a new Silverado facility. The upgraded site will offer more counters, better accessibility, expanded parking, and self-service kiosks, while residents are still encouraged to handle many tasks online.
   

3. Nevada nonprofit provides free programs for people with down syndrome (8newsnow.com) — A Las Vegas-based nonprofit, Gigi's Playhouse, is offering free educational, fitness, and life-skills programs for people with Down syndrome of all ages, with no one ever aging out. Families here can also support the all-volunteer center by attending the 321 Light of Las Vegas Gala on September 18, which helps keep every program free for local participants.
   

4. Major $1B transmission project breaks ground in Southern Nevada (reviewjournal.com) — A $1 billion GridLiance West transmission project will add about 155 miles of new and upgraded power lines from the Las Vegas area toward Pahrump and Indian Springs, aiming to serve roughly 750,000 homes by 2028. State, federal, tribal, and local leaders say the work should strengthen Southern Nevada's grid, support future economic growth, and generate hundreds of construction jobs and long-term tax revenue.
   

5. Three indicted in firearms, secure facility case in North Las Vegas (fox5vegas.com) — Federal prosecutors say three people face multiple charges after allegedly buying pistols with false statements and attempting to enter the U.S. Department of Energy's North Las Vegas facility with a concealed weapon. For Las Vegas-area residents, the case highlights ongoing federal security enforcement at a nearby critical site, with a jury trial set for November 2, 2026.
