📰 News we're reading

1. Police search for man linked to string of home burglaries in west Las Vegas Valley (news3lv.com) — Residents in the west Las Vegas Valley are being urged to review home surveillance footage as Metro police search for a man linked to several recent burglaries near Tropicana and Hualapai and near Grand Canyon and Tompkins. Neighbors say the reports are unsettling and are watching their streets more closely, while detectives work from released photos to identify the suspect.

2. Over 200 homes approved for redevelopment at former iconic Paradise Spa complex (fox5vegas.com) — A long-troubled former Paradise Spa condo site near East Richmar Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard is being transformed into a 275-home community, easing years of blight for nearby Las Vegas neighbors. Residents who once endured fires, encampments, and constant sirens say the new Taylor Morrison project already feels like a relief, even as they await a construction timeline.

3. Neighbors voice concerns about proposed northwest Las Vegas subdivision (fox5vegas.com) — Neighbors in northwest Las Vegas are pushing back against a proposed Pulte Homes subdivision at Ann Road and Egan Crest, arguing denser housing would bring unwanted traffic, lights, and sidewalks to their rural-style community. City staff have recommended denying the rezoning, saying it conflicts with an interlocal agreement between Las Vegas and Clark County, while Commissioner April Becker criticizes the city's zoning decisions as the proposal awaits City Council review.

4. CCSD spending under scrutiny as state audit finds district wasted public funds (ktnv.com) — Clark County School District, which serves Las Vegas families, is under fire after a legislative audit found millions in poorly tracked spending on recruitment trips, scholarships, bonuses, and credit card purchases. Auditors flagged lavish travel with little hiring return, weak safeguards on district credit cards, and scholarship programs lacking accountability, while CCSD says it's accepted all recommendations and tightened oversight under new leadership.

5. Jade Eagleson set to perform ahead of South Point 400 in Las Vegas (fox5vegas.com) — Las Vegas racing fans can catch a free Jade Eagleson country concert before the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this Sunday, Oct. 4.
