Merrimack County Expects Most Computer Systems To Be Secure And Functional This Week: Follow-Up

BOSCAWEN, NH — Merrimack County recently became aware of a network security incident that temporarily disrupted some computer systems.

But now, the county believes it has contained the issue.

On Monday, Ross Cunningham, the county administrator, said there was no active threat, and most systems were expected to return to full service by Tuesday.

“As you know, Merrimack County recently became aware of a network security incident that caused a temporary disruption to some of our systems,” he said. “At this time, we can confirm that the systems are contained and there is no active threat in the environment.”

Cunningham did not say which county systems were affected or when the disruption began.

Patch learned about the issue on Aug. 25, after a county dispatcher reported access to criminal data from the state’s IMC software had gone down. County dispatch assists nearly 20 other departments in the state. During the outage, other police departments assisted, according to several sources.

Cunningham said systems will continue to be restored on a rolling basis throughout the week.

“Protecting the security and privacy of personal information is of the utmost importance to Merrimack County,” he said. “Merrimack County apologizes for the concern and inconvenience this matter causes and will issue updates regarding this matter to the community as appropriate.”
