Soule: How to Make Cow Friends And Alienate People
That's the thing about cattle: they are forgiving. I can bark at a steer at nine in the morning, and by 9:02 he's looking for a treat.
Visitors from Massachusetts were enjoying the Ultimate Cow Experience with my Scottish Highland steer, Curious Bleu, when a woman and her daughter wandered over. I asked who they were and said a tour was underway.
The woman said, “I’m Sharon, and this is my daughter.”
Distracted by the tour, I must have said something like, “Horned cattle are tied out,” and I thought I told them, “Please don’t get too close to them; I don’t want you to get hurt.”
Sharon had just checked into a Suite in my Farmhouse and only wanted to walk around the farm. It turns out she did get hurt. Not by a horn. By me.
