1. Keene Water System Flushing to Run Overnight Starting Sunday (magic967.com) — Keene’s annual water main flushing starts Sunday night, Sept. 20, with overnight work expected to continue for three to four weeks and possibly causing brief traffic delays and discolored water. Residents are urged to run cold water if it turns cloudy, follow Public Works’ instructions, and call 603-352-6550 for help with any laundry staining.
   

2. Free 2-Hour Parking: Central Square & Main Street (keenenh.gov) — If you’re heading to downtown Keene, you can now park for free for up to two hours on Main Street and Central Square through December 31, 2026, while construction continues. You still need to register your plate via ParkMobile or a kiosk, and longer stays should use the Commercial Street or Gilbo Avenue lots. City staff will roll out more guidance as meters are reprogrammed.
   

3. Old Rite Aid building in Keene to be demolished (keenesentinel.com) — A proposal to demolish the long-vacant Rite Aid on Winchester Street and replace it with a new 4,500-square-foot fast-food restaurant with dual drive-thrus will go before the Keene Planning Board on Monday, Sept. 28. The public meeting at Keene City Hall could shape what happens next at this prominent Riverside Plaza site, which has sat empty since the pharmacy chain closed in 2025.
   

4. Assault suspect arrested after multi-day search in Keene (newportdispatch.com) — A multi-day search for an assault suspect ended in Keene after police from several towns and a State Police helicopter tracked a man accused of assault and multiple vehicle thefts across Cheshire County. The suspect was finally arrested near Winchester Street in Keene and is being held for arraignment Monday in 8th Circuit Court – Keene. State Police are still asking anyone with information to contact their dispatch line.
   

5. H.S. XC: Keene High, Monadnock compete at Amherst Invitational (keenesentinel.com) — Keene High’s cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Amherst Invitational, with the boys placing third and the girls tying for fourth against mostly Massachusetts schools. Several Keene runners, including Sawyer Kress and Eva Cutts, finished in the top 25 of their races. Freshman Lincoln Pinegar also won his race, helping Keene’s freshmen take second as a team.
