Water Rescues, Power Outages Pepper NJ As Flooding Rains Move Through

Passaic County fire officials have responded to multiple calls for people who need to be rescued from vehicles in the water.

Multiple water rescues have been reported on Monday as showers and storms bring flooding to parts of the Garden State.

According to the latest from the National Weather Service (NWS), heavy rain is continuing to move through the area, with flood warnings currently in effect.

A Flood Watch has been issued throughout parts of NJ until 11 p.m. Monday, as well as a Flash Flood Warning in effect in Mercer, Monmouth, Middlesex, Southeastern Somerset, Northeastern Burlington, and Northern Ocean Counties until 2:45 p.m.

Multiple rounds of scattered showers and storms are expected, though forecasters said not everyone will experience heavy rainfall.

Early Monday morning, the Hawthorne Fire Department reported that they've already responded to "numerous calls for vehicles in the water with occupants needing to be removed."

In Monmouth County, road closures are also in place due to downed utility lines and trees, and areas of Route 38 are closed due to flooding in Cherry Hill.

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) is currently reporting multiple outages in Hunterdon, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Sussex and Warren Counties.
