Man Suffered Heart Attack On Asbury Park Beach

ASBURY PARK, NJ — A 41-year-old man suffered a cardiac event July 24 on the beach at Asbury Park, and his life was saved by Asbury Park lifeguards, firefighters and police using CPR and an AED.

The 911 call came in at 6:45 p.m. July 24, a Friday.

A man was unresponsive and not breathing on the 7th Avenue beach. When firefighters and EMS got there, an Asbury Park Police officer and lifeguards were already doing CPR and chest compressions on the man.

Asbury Park firefighters took over and administered two shocks from their Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device. The man's pulse was regained and he regained consciousness.

It is unknown what triggered the man to have a cardiac event, said Asbury Park Police public information officer Sgt. Michael Casey.

The man was awake and talking when he was taken to the ER, said the Asbury Park Fire Dept. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
