Neptune City Man Charged With Asbury Park Fatal Shooting

The shooting happened last September on Monmouth Avenue. One man died; another survived.

ASBURY PARK, NJ — A fugitive who was wanted for a September 2025 shooting homicide in Asbury Park has been located in Philadelphia and arrested, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Wednesday.

Jerod L. Jones, 32, of Neptune City, was arrested in Philadelphia by members of the Philadelphia Police Department and extradited to New Jersey.

The fatal shooting happened September 11, 2025 in the vicinity of the 100 block of Monmouth Avenue in Asbury Park. Officers discovered two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.

The first victim, identified as Tyshan Small, 37, was rushed to a local hospital where he later died. The second victim was also transported to a local hospital and survived the gunshot wounds.

An investigation by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department determined Jones to be responsible for Smalls' murder and the shooting of the other man.

Jones was indicted on charges of first-degree Murder, one count of first-degree Attempted Murder, one count of Unlawful Possession of a weapon (handgun), one count of second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and one count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon.

He's currently being held at the Monmouth County jail.
