📰 News we're reading

• Two Jersey Shore towns among Safest Towns for Senior Living (app.com) — Barnegat has been singled out as one of New Jersey's safest and most appealing towns for senior living, thanks to its slower pace, bayfront setting, and strong support network. Local seniors benefit from nearby medical care, a dedicated rehabilitation and nursing center, active recreation programming, Heritage Village & Museum, and easy outings to Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and seasonal farmers markets.

• Art Notes, Aug. 19 (thesandpaper.net) — Barnegat residents can explore Revolutionary War art for free this Saturday, Aug. 22, at Cedar Bridge Tavern on Old Halfway Road, with demonstrations and a slideshow by local artist and author Barbara Alice Moir. The Barnegat Historical Society is co-presenting the program, while another nearby exhibit in Barnegat Light showcases intricate found-object seascapes that turn everyday items into environmental reflections.

• Grandfather's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit in N.J. boat crash that killed grandkids (nj.com subscription) — A tragic July boat crash in Barnegat Bay that killed two young siblings now appears linked to their grandfather's reported blood-alcohol level of .16%, twice New Jersey's legal limit. Ocean County prosecutors sought to keep him jailed, but a judge released him with conditions while he awaits trial on reckless vessel homicide charges.
