Ridge Cross Country Team Wins Somerset County Championships

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Both Ridge cross country teams won the County Championships at their home course, Pleasant Valley Park.

The girls won the freshman and varsity races, while the boys took home trophies for the varsity and JV races.

Jenny Friedman won the varsity race in 18:37, almost a minute in front of second place.

Maia Zalmover, Isabella Beaudry, Rachel Ellis and Lily-Josephine Stephen secured the win with fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place.

Altogether, five girls ran a sub-20 5k, and six girls medalled in the top ten. In the girls’ freshman race, Antonina Kane took first while the team won the race with a perfect score.

All the boys’ varsity runners placed in the top ten, winning their race by more than 50 points.

Owen James and Andrew Bandrowski led the charge in second and third place, and Nishank Shivapur, Ernan Nargotra, and Matias Valle followed in fifth, sixth, and seventh.

The boys continued the trend in the JV race by sweeping first through sixth place.

The Ridge cross country team’s recent wins add to a long history of trophies at their home course, Pleasant Valley Park. On Halloween, the team will compete at Greystone Park for the State Sectional.
