Montclair Athlete Niall McLeod Qualifies for USATF National Championships

Montclair resident Niall McLeod continues to make impressive strides in the sport of javelin, building on the momentum from last year’s accomplishments.

Since then, Niall has earned two All-American honors and two silver medals in the AAU turbo javelin. He has now transitioned to the 450g AeroJav and is competing in USATF Track & Field events.

His progress over the past year has been remarkable. Niall only began throwing the javelin two years ago, and until just before his first national competition, his only coaches were his parents. Despite that, he has developed rapidly, recently winning the New Jersey USATF State Championship with a throw of 33.46 meters, and then improving further to capture the USATF Region 2 Championship with a personal-best throw of 37.24 meters.

That regional title has earned him a spot at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, California, at the end of July, where he will compete against top young athletes from across the country.

It’s exciting to see a young Montclair athlete take on such a technical event and progress so quickly. Niall’s journey—from picking up the javelin just two years ago to becoming a regional champion and national qualifier—highlights both his dedication and potential.
