2. Berkeley Heights House Fire Displaces Residents; All Escape Safely (tapinto.net) — A Wednesday afternoon house fire on Maple Avenue in Berkeley Heights caused heavy damage and displaced the residents, but everyone escaped safely before firefighters arrived. The Berkeley Heights Fire Department, aided by several neighboring towns and local EMS units, quickly knocked down the second-floor blaze while additional crews covered the rest of the township. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Berkeley Heights honors Lionel Messi with temporary street name near World Cup site (abc7ny.com) — Berkeley Heights is temporarily renaming the intersection of Sherman Avenue and Station Street as “Leo Messi Way” during the 2026 World Cup, just miles from the final’s venue. Local café owner and Argentina native Carolina Zokalski spearheaded the tribute, turning her shop into a gathering spot for fans and organizing Saturday’s sign unveiling to celebrate Messi and Argentine culture.
