Bridgewater Police Launch Safe Riding Program For Kids With Chick-fil-A Rewards
Officers will hand out Chick-fil-A meal cards to young riders seen wearing helmets, following traffic laws and riding safely.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Township police will begin handing out Chick-fil-A meal cards to young riders who show safe habits on bicycles, scooters and electric bicycles under a new community policing initiative.
The program, called "Ride the Safe Way, Get Chick-fil-A!," started Monday, Nov. 2, in Bridgewater.
During routine patrols, officers will watch for young riders wearing helmets, obeying traffic laws, operating at safe speeds and showing courtesy to pedestrians and motorists.

The complimentary cards were provided through Paul Daniel, owner of the Chick-fil-A on Route 202 in Bridgewater, according to the department. The cards can be redeemed only at the Bridgewater location.
Bridgewater Township Police Chief John Mitzak said the initiative is meant to spotlight good decisions, not just unsafe conduct.
"This initiative is about recognizing young people for making smart, safe decisions," said Mitzak.
"Police officers are often associated with enforcing laws and correcting unsafe behavior, but we also want to recognize those who are doing the right thing. This is a great opportunity for our officers to connect with young residents, encourage safe riding habits, and build positive relationships within our community," Mitzak said.
