Retired officer faces charges in Burlington County sexual assault case (burlingtoncountytimes.com) — A retired Haddonfield police officer has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl in a case now being handled by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office. The Maple Shade resident is being held in Burlington County Jail pending a detention hearing, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the county’s special victims unit.

New ballistic evidence leads to arrest in 2020 Burlington County killing (news12.com) — A Burlington City man has been charged in the 2020 shooting death of another Burlington City resident outside an Edgewater Park apartment complex, after new ballistic evidence revived the case. Authorities say the suspect was already in Burlington County Jail on unrelated charges and will face a detention hearing soon as prosecutors prepare the case for a grand jury review.

Burlington County Commissioners give preliminary approval for preservation of 529 more acres of farmland (trentonian.com subscription) — Burlington County Commissioners have given preliminary approval to preserve 529 more acres of local farmland, strengthening protections against overdevelopment and supporting the county’s agricultural economy. Seven farms across Chesterfield, Pemberton, Springfield, Tabernacle, and Southampton are in line for preservation, with most costs covered by state funds and the county’s open space trust, and no municipal share expected.
   

4. New Jersey DEP warns of high bacteria at Burlington County lakes after floods (fox29.com) — If you’re heading to Sylvan Lake or other Burlington County swimming spots this weekend, be aware that state officials are monitoring elevated bacteria levels after recent flash floods. Advisories are posted, especially for children and older adults, though many visitors are still swimming while they wait for updated test results and any possible closures.
