Fire Sparks Hazmat Situation At NJ Pharmaceutical Company, Officials Say

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A fire in Cherry Hill early Tuesday morning caused a hazmat situation in the area.

In speaking to Patch, Keystone Industries said that a single chemical drum caught fire at their Research and Pharmaceutical building in the 600 block of Hollywood Avenue.

Safety alarms activated immediately, and the fire was "quickly extinguished" with aid from the Cherry Hill Fire Department.

The business said all of their safety and protection systems functioned properly, and that this was an "isolated" situation.

No injuries were reported, and there was no impact to the community around the facility, spokesperson Peter Bernardino added.

The company has multiple buildings along Hollywood Avenue.

The Camden County Hazmat Team cleared the scene at around 3 a.m., and operations have returned to normal.

"Keystone Industries thanks its employees, the Cherry Hill Fire Department, and the Camden County Hazmat Team for their prompt response, professionalism, and commitment to safety," the company said.

Keystone Industries is headquartered in Gibbstown and provides advanced manufacturing, packaging, and more for a variety of cosmetic products.

Patch has reached out to both fire and police officials for more on the chemical fire and is yet to hear back.
