Diane Elaine Johanson passed away peacefully at her home in Golden, Colorado, on June 11, 2026, at the age of 90. Born April 30, 1936 in Union County, New Jersey, Diane spent her early years in Cranford, New Jersey before attending Bucknell University.
In 1957, Diane married her childhood sweetheart, Bob Johanson, and the couple moved to Rochester, New York in 1959, where Diane completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Rochester. Diane and Bob purchased a home in Greece, New York in 1960, where they raised four children and built a life together. They lived in Greece for more than six decades until they relocated to Colorado in 2025 to be closer to their children, who had each settled in the Western United States.
In the early 1970s, Diane founded and operated a letterpress printing business with a dear friend. She will undoubtedly be most remembered, however, for her lifelong volunteer work. Diane was deeply committed to her community and generously shared her time working with the Greece Public Library, the local Girl Scouts and 4-H Club, local theatre venues, and the Rochester Dahlia and African Violet Societies. Diane will be remembered for her devotion to family, her love of reading and gardening, and her dedication to the organizations and people she supported throughout her life. The gifts of her time, kindness, and love will live on in the many lives she touched.
Diane is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 69 years, Bob; her four children, David, Lois, Linda, and Susan; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Sharon. Arrangements have been entrusted to Horan & McConaty in Lakewood, Colorado.
Diane will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, less than a mile from where she and Bob grew up. In accordance with Diane’s wishes, no local services will be held. Memorial donations may be made in Diane’s memory to the Friends of the Greece Public Library.
