On March 17, 2023, a girl, under the age of 13, said a man, later identified as Rothman, used a cell phone to record her while she was trying on clothing in the changing room of a Kohl's retail store off Route 202 in Raritan Township.
An investigation later found that Rothman had cell phone recordings of the girl while she was in the changing room, police said.

Rothman's phone also had images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of other children, who have not yet been identified, according to authorities.
On Sept. 19, 2025, Rothman pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, creating or photographing a depiction of child sexual exploitation and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child by possessing Child Sexual Assault Material(CSAM).
Judge Christopher J. Garrenger sentenced Rothman to a seven-year prison term with a three-and-one-half-year period of parole ineligibility to run consecutively to an eight-year prison term with a two-and-one-half-year period parole ineligibility.
The sentence was additionally ordered to run concurrently with a five-year prison term for Rothman’s conviction in Mercer County for third-degree invasion of privacy.
"Our courts have long acknowledged that offenses involving the sexual exploitation of children inflict profound harm and carry lasting consequences for the victims. Child pornography, in particular, retraumatizes those children every time an image or video is viewed," said Robeson.
Robeson acknowledged the "diligent efforts of the assistant prosecutors, investigators, and all involved agencies for their combined efforts in investigating and prosecuting this case."
