• Hunterdon County Commissioners Award $500,000 in Grants to Local Fire and EMS Organizations (tapinto.net subscription) — County leaders meeting in Flemington have approved $500,000 in grants to help local fire and EMS departments upgrade equipment, safety gear, and other essentials. Funded through the 2026 county budget, the program aims to ease rising costs while strengthening emergency response across Hunterdon County communities. Officials praised volunteers' around-the-clock service and framed the grants as part of a broader partnership with municipalities.
   

• Local Event: Croton Arts Festival 2026 (patch.com) — An arts festival is coming just outside Flemington later this month, offering four days of free, family-friendly fun at 31 Rake Road in the hamlet of Croton. Local artists will showcase sculpture, pottery, jewelry, painting, and photography, and kids can get hands-on making their own pinch pots to take home. It runs September 19, 20, 26, and 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine.
   

• The Seeing Eye Recognizes 29 Volunteers with Service Awards and $55,000 in Scholarships (fcfreepresspa.com) — A Flemington student, Claire Irene Fly, is among 22 college-bound puppy raisers honored with scholarships by The Seeing Eye, which trains guide dogs for people who are blind. The organization also recognized long-time volunteers and club leaders from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and beyond at its recent Family Day. Residents interested in raising a puppy can apply if they live within the approved Mid-Atlantic region.
