With full lifeguard crews still ramping up, officials are urging local residents to avoid unguarded beaches, learn how to escape rip currents, and take this early-season spike in drownings seriously.
   

• DEP Forest Fire Service Releases First Annual Wildfire Report Showing 22% Increase in Wildfires, 99.6% Through Human Activity (26/P030) (nj.gov) — A new state wildfire report spotlights how an illegal campfire in the Forked River Mountains Wilderness Area sparked the massive Jones Road Wildfire, threatening thousands of nearby Ocean and Lacey homes and closing major roads. Officials say 99.6% of New Jersey wildfires are human-caused and urge residents around Forked River to be extra cautious with campfires and equipment.
