📰 News we're reading
• Biotechnology High School Students Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists (patch.com) — Freehold residents can celebrate several Biotechnology High School students being named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, placing them among the top 1 percent of seniors nationwide. These local scholars now move on to compete for thousands of prestigious scholarships, requiring applications, recommendations, and strong test scores, with winners to be announced between April and July 2027.

• Spring freeze gutted N.J.'s apple crop. Here's where you can still pick your own apples this fall. (nj.com subscription) — Freehold's Battleview Orchards, the state's oldest pick-your-own orchard, has lost its entire apple crop this year and won't offer apple picking, though its farm market and cider doughnuts remain open. A severe April freeze devastated apples across New Jersey, leaving some orchards closed for picking, others running limited seasons, and a few operating more normally, so residents are urged to check ahead before visiting.

• Bravo Italian Kitchen closes several restaurants (nrn.com) — Freehold diners may have noticed that the local Brio Italian Grille has closed, part of a wider wave of shutdowns for the Bravo and Brio chains nationwide. The company, which has gone through multiple bankruptcies and ownership changes, has been steadily shrinking locations as casual-dining demand softens and underperforming restaurants are shuttered.
