Glendora Fire Company Launches New Website and Recruitment Campaign to Answer the Call for Firefighters

Glendora Fire Company launches FEMA-funded SAFER grant to recruit more firefighters via glendoranjfirefighters.org.

As emergency calls continue to rise and new leadership ushers in a clear direction focused on training, mentorship and readiness, Glendora Fire Company is taking action. The department has secured a federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant and launched a new website and recruitment campaign to build the next generation of firefighters.

The new recruitment website, www.glendoranjfirefighters.org, serves as a central hub for anyone interested in joining the fire service, whether they are exploring volunteering for the first time or already hold a New Jersey Firefighter 1 certification. It outlines ways to get involved, explains training opportunities and provides a direct path to connect with the department.

At the center of the effort is the message, “Stellar training. Aggressive lifesaving. Glendora’s got it. Do you?” which reflects the company’s focus on high-level training, rapid response and a strong team-based culture built on service.

Protecting Glendora and surrounding communities for more than 100 years, the fire company responds to nearly 300 calls annually, including motor vehicle accidents along the Black Horse Pike and Evesham Road, structure fires in residential neighborhoods, emergency medical assists and water rescues on Big Timber Creek. Officials say meeting that demand requires a steady pipeline of trained and committed members.

Since taking command in June 2025, Glendora Fire Company Chief Harry Woods has emphasized a unified, team-focused approach that brings volunteers and stipend firefighters together in shared training, strengthens mentorship across all levels and reinforces a culture where new members are welcomed, supported and integrated from day one.

“This is a defining moment for our company,” said Woods. “We are building a culture where training, mentorship and preparedness come first. We are looking for people who want to challenge themselves, serve their community and be part of something bigger.”

The recruitment campaign emphasizes that there is a role for everyone, regardless of experience level.

Opportunities to Serve and How to Get Involved

Glendora Fire Company offers flexible opportunities based on experience, availability and interests. For those without prior experience, or those looking to serve on their own schedule, volunteering is a direct way to get involved. All training and gear are provided at no cost.

Volunteer Firefighter (ages 18+): Respond to house fires, motor vehicle accidents, water rescues and other emergencies while training with modern equipment and gaining hands-on experience.

Junior Firefighter (ages 16–17): Build skills early through hands-on training and mentorship. Assist at emergency scenes with support tasks while learning fire and rescue operations.

Non-Emergency Member (ages 18+): Support the department through administrative work, community events, fundraising and other behind-the-scenes roles that keep the organization running.

Stipend Program
For those who already hold a New Jersey Firefighter 1 certification, the stipend program offers the opportunity to serve in a structured, fast-paced role while earning compensation through Gloucester Township Fire District No. 1. Stipend firefighters work scheduled rotations as part of the duty crew and respond to calls in real time, applying their training in active emergency situations. Day shifts run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at $150 per shift. Night shifts run Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to midnight, at $90 per shift.

All members train together twice per month, with additional opportunities through the fire academy and regional training programs. Company leaders emphasize that mentorship remains central, ensuring new members are supported as they build confidence and capability.

“Our members come from all different backgrounds, but they share a commitment to serving others,” said Woods. “From responding to emergencies to supporting the department behind the scenes, every role plays a critical part in protecting this community.”

The campaign includes social media advertising, targeted mailings, outreach at community events and additional engagement efforts designed to connect directly with residents across the township.

The recruitment and retention grant, which has no tax impact on residents, while giving members the opportunity to gain technical skills and real-world experience that provide lasting personal and professional benefits.

“I joined to serve my community and it quickly became more than that. It opened the door to doing what I love, and it is the best decision I have ever made,” said stipend firefighter Jayden Evans.
