NJ Transit Suspends Hackettstown Train Service After Drawbridge Issue

Hackettstown riders faced suspended rail service and cancellations Friday after a Newark Drawbridge problem disrupted NJ Transit operations.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — NJ Transit suspended train service to and from Hackettstown on Friday after a drawbridge problem disrupted rail operations the previous day.

According to a service advisory, trains were not operating between Dover and Hackettstown on the Morris & Essex Line or between Montclair State University and Hackettstown on the Montclair-Boonton Line.

The disruptions followed Thursday's problems with the Newark Drawbridge, which affected train crews and equipment availability.

NJ Transit explained that the bridge, built in 1903, had to open for marine traffic. Although personnel eventually closed it Thursday night, service between Hoboken and Newark Broad Street had been disrupted for much of the day.

The disruption prevented trains and crews from reaching their scheduled destinations, affecting Friday's operations.

"We apologize for the impacts to this morning's commute," the agency said.

Riders can check the latest service information through NJ Transit's website, mobile app or My Transit Alerts notifications.

The agency also encouraged passengers to allow extra travel time before traveling.
