Chain Of 1,400 Cereal Boxes To Support Monmouth County Food Pantry
Following weeks of collection efforts, these Monmouth County students will topple the chain for their most ambitious "Cereal Challenge" yet.
KEYPORT, NJ — The hallways of a Monmouth County school will soon be transformed into a record-breaking runway of cereal boxes to support a local food pantry, the school district recently announced.
Following weeks of intensive collection efforts, Central School in the Keyport Public School District will attempt its most ambitious “Cereal Challenge” yet on Friday, toppling a massive chain of at least 1,400 cereal boxes in a display of community spirit.
According to district officials, all 1,400+ boxes of cereal will be donated to the Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry in support of their mission to provide nutritious meals for local families.

“This event is the culmination of a multi-week drive,” officials said. “Students have been tirelessly gathering boxes and coordinating with local partners to reach this milestone.”
Not only have students been gathering boxes and coordinating for the event, but they’ve also been participating in “shopping lessons” on their own time, where students learn how to stretch donation dollars and maximize their impact through smart budgeting and community outreach.

Engineering for the challenge is also student-led, with National Honor Society students applying STEM and teamwork skills to design the complex layout of cereal boxes that navigate the school’s hallways.
Major donations from Keyport Bayfront Business Cooperative, Kiwanis, Apollo Plumbing, Pine Belt Nissan and Scholastic Books have fueled the record-breaking attempt, officials said.
In preparation for the challenge, Stop ‘N’ Shop also hung posters to drive awareness and hosted a student “canning” event to collect final funds and boxes.
This will be Keyport Public Schools’ fourth annual Cereal Box Challenge, with donations being collected until Friday, one day before National Cereal Day.
At 2:15 p.m. on the day of the event, School Resource Officer Matt Salvator will kick off the run as 1,400+ cereal boxes fall in a massive “Chain of Kindness.”
